Whirlpool Spas
By far the most popular spa is the "portable" unit,
which has all the operating kit built under the spa, and the whole
unit is contained in a redwood "skirt". These vary in
price according to their specification, some running off a 13amp
supply, with the more sophisticated needing a dedicated supply.
Domestic Spas
Domestic and light commercial spas come as a
separate spa shell, pre-plumbed and tested, and an operating
"skid pack". This comprises of one or two pumps, an air
blower, heater, filter and control panel. the shell needs to be
built in, and is usually set half in the ground. This type is
available in various shapes and sizes and to seat between two and
twelve persons.
Heavy duty commercial spas are
available to similar shapes and sizes to the above, but include
automatic water levelling, chemical dosing and top up systems.
They require a large plant room, preferably through an adjacent
wall.
